Child Support Evader Tomas Roman
Attorney General Greg Abbott needs your help locating Child Support Evader Tomas Roman, one of the Most Wanted Child Support Evaders in Texas. Roman, who was added to the Child Support Evaderís list in April 2008, owes $147,574 for the care of two sons from the Houston area.
When the childrenís parents divorced, Roman was ordered to pay $400 a month in child support. Roman, who had the ability to make his payments, did not follow the courtís order to support his children financially.
In 2001, the childrenís mother requested that the Office of the Attorney General take steps to enforce the order. Based on the OAGís legal action, the courts determined that Roman owed $120,000 in unpaid child support. The judge gave Roman a suspended jail sentence and placed him on probation on the condition that he would begin paying what he owed.
Because Roman did not take advantage of many opportunities to begin making regular child support payments, the judge revoked his probation and committed him to the Harris County Jail for 180 days.
After serving two months of his sentence, the judge authorized an early release to give Roman one more opportunity to begin making his payments. An arrest warrant was issued in June 2006, after Roman failed to appear at a hearing to monitor compliance with the judgeís order. He now is wanted on a $30,000 cash bond that when paid will go to the mother and children who are owed the support.
Roman has not made a single payment since January 2006. By refusing to provide the financial resources his sons need, Roman has turned his back on his children and violated the law. A combination of missed payments and interest that accrues on unpaid child support adds up to more than $147,000 in unpaid child support Roman owes.
Investigators from the Attorney Generalís Office have searched the state for Roman. He is believed to be living in the Houston area. He may be working for cash or self-employed to avoid garnishment of wages to pay child support. Contact the Attorney Generalís Office at 1-866-EVADERS (382-3377) to report information that may lead to the arrest of Tomas Roman.

The Child Support Evaders are selected because they have the ability to take responsibility for their children, but refuse to do so. Incarceration is the only option for parents who flagrantly ignore a courtís order to pay child support. The Attorney Generalís Office helps parents who lack the ability to pay child support by referring them to job training and employment services.
