AUSTIN - Texas Attorney General John Cornyn joined with representatives of the Hogg Foundation and the Center for Public Policy Priorities to announce the Texas Fragile Families Initiative (TFFI). The TFFI is a cooperative effort of foundations, service providers and state government agencies to assist fathers in meeting the financial and emotional needs of their children.

"Government is a poor substitute for a parent. This initiative is an effort to join financial support with the intangible-but very real--emotional benefits of having a father," said General Cornyn.

Early plans for the initiative include:

Attorney General Cornyn said, "The dramatic fall in fatherhood involvement has occurred over many years. We will not solve this problem overnight. However, I believe combining a helpful hand with the firm backing of child support enforcement will produce the best results for Texas children."
