CORNYN ANNOUNCES ARREST OF CHILD SUPPORT DEAD BEAT
William J. Diers of Temple arrested after boarding flight at Austin airport
AUSTIN - Texas Attorney General John Cornyn today announced the arrest of child support dead beat, William J. Diers, 30, of Temple. Diers owes $3,403 in delinquent child support for an 18-month-old son in Bell County. Judge Gordon Adams issued an arrest warrant for Diers on May 10, 2000, after he did not appear at a court hearing to address his failure to pay child support.
"Dead beat parents are on notice. My office will continue working with local law enforcement to find these dead beats and make them live up to their responsibilities, or suffer the consequences," Attorney General Cornyn said.
Investigators from the Attorney General's office received a tip that Diers was scheduled to take an early morning flight today to New York state. A deputy from Travis County Constable Precinct 5 Bruce Elfant's office, an Austin Bergstrom Airport Police officer, and an Attorney General's office investigator located Diers after he boarded the plane and sat in his assigned seat. Diers was then arrested. Diers is currently being held in the Travis County jail on $500 bond and will be returned to Bell County where he faces up to six months in jail.
