Regarding Public Citizen, Inc. et al v. Elton Bomer, Secretary of State:

"I am pleased that the federal court has dismissed this lawsuit which sought to halt all elections of state court judges in Texas. As attorney for the Texas Secretary of State in this case, we said all along that this lawsuit was misguided because it presented a question that should be addressed by the Texas Legislature and over 20 million Texas citizens, not a federal judge. The ruling by U.S. District Judge James Nowlin is a victory for the people of Texas because it preserves their right to make their own decisions about how to select judges. We look forward to a healthy and vigorous public debate about how to improve our system for selecting judges in Texas when the Texas Legislature reconvenes next January."
