Senate and House maps scheduled to be adopted

AUSTIN - Members of the Legislative Redistricting Board will convene in Austin Tuesday and are scheduled to vote on adoption of plans for new maps of the Texas State Senate and House of Representatives districts.

Members will also hear public testimony at the beginning of the meeting.

LRB Chair John Cornyn, Attorney General of Texas, and Texas Speaker of the House Pete Laney have proposed redistricting maps for the Texas House of Representatives. LRB Vice Chair Carole Keeton Rylander, Lt. Gov Bill Ratliff and Texas Land Commissioner David Dewhurst have proposed redistricting maps for the Texas Senate.

Every 10 years after new census figures are released, the State must redraw boundary lines for statewide and federal political subdivisions. The Legislative Redistricting Board has been charged with redrawing Texas House and Senate district boundary lines.
