If your property was seized as evidence in a crime, you may be eligible for compensation to help replace it. Here’s what you need to know:

Too often, victims of crimes are left without their personal belongings after an investigation. The Crime Victims’ Compensation (CVC) Program can help cover the costs of replacing items taken by law enforcement for evidence. Examples of items that may be replaced are:

  • Bedding
  • Sheets
  • Clothing
  • Cell phones
  • Property rendered unusable during evidence collection
  • Other personal property

What’s not covered:

  • Costs to replace or repair property that is lost, damaged or stolen during the crime
  • Property not verified in the offense report

How Much Can the CVC Program Cover?

The CVC Program will pay up to $1,000 for property seized by law enforcement as evidence in crimes that occurred after July 14, 2016. For crimes before this date, different limits may apply.
