Have you lost financial support because of a violent crime? You may be eligible for some reimbursement. Here’s what you need to know:

Too often, when a loved one who supports their family is tragically murdered, their dependents are left without the financial support they need. If this has happened to you, the Crime Victims' Compensation (CVC) Program may be able to help. You could qualify for compensation to replace the financial support you’ve lost. This program can cover the income or support that is no longer available because of the crime.

Who Can Get Help?

You may qualify for assistance if you are:

  • A dependent of a deceased victim who lost financial support due to the crime

Dependents include individuals defined as such by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service code or the legal/informal spouse of a victim who has died as a result of the crime.

If you are crime victim who lost financial support due to a crime, please go to the Victim Loss of Support page for the right resources.

How Much Can the CVC Program Cover?

  • For crimes after July 14, 2016, the program covers up to $700 per week for loss of support up to 13 weeks
