AG Paxton: 5th Circuit Ruling Reinstates Texas’ Harboring Law

Attorney General Paxton said this in response to the decision: “Today’s ruling by the 5th Circuit will allow the state to fight the smuggling of humans and illegal contraband by transnational gangs and perpetrators of organized crime, not just on the border, but throughout Texas.”

AG Paxton Releases Statement on President Trump’s Decision on School Bathroom Directive

“The action taken today by the Trump administration is encouraging and my office is evaluating what impact it might bear on our ongoing litigation. Our fight over the bathroom directive has always been about former President Obama’s attempt to bypass Congress and rewrite the laws to fit his political agenda for radical social change. The Obama administration’s directive on bathrooms unlawfully invaded areas that are left to state discretion under the Tenth Amendment. School policy should center on the safety, privacy and dignity of its students, not the whims of federal bureaucrats.”

AG Paxton Releases Statement on District Court’s Ruling on Defunding Planned Parenthood

“Today’s decision is disappointing and flies in the face of basic human decency. The raw, unedited footage from undercover videos exposed a brazen willingness by Planned Parenthood officials to traffic in fetal body parts, as well as manipulate the timing and method of an abortion. Even the remains of the most vicious criminals are treated with respect. But the children who never had a chance at life become so-called medical waste or, alternatively, a commodity to be bartered for. No taxpayer in Texas should have to subsidize this repugnant and illegal conduct. We should never lose sight of the fact that, as long as abortion is legal in the United States, the potential for these types of horrors will continue.”

AG Paxton Applauds Leadership of Lt. Governor Patrick and Senator Huffman to Preserve Voter ID

“Election integrity is one of the most important functions of government, and Voter ID is an integral part of maintaining election integrity,” Attorney General Paxton said. “The updates to Voter ID that Senator Huffman proposes will make the changes necessary to comply with the Fifth Circuit ruling while ensuring the integrity of the voting process. The leadership of Lieutenant Governor Patrick and Senator Huffman are critical to Texas’ ability to use its Voter ID law in the future.”

AG Paxton: Amicus Brief Filed to Protect Second Amendment Rights Outside of the Home

“The Constitution plainly guarantees law-abiding citizens the right to bear arms outside of the home for self-defense, whether through open or concealed carrying. AG Paxton Releases Statement on the Washington State Supreme Court’s Decision in the Arlene’s Flowers Case

“The First Amendment guarantees the liberty to speak freely, and the fundamental right to disagree. The government cannot force individuals to create art against their conscience and deeply held religious beliefs. Today’s display of intolerance by the Washington State Supreme Court both defies the Constitution and seeks to outlaw the belief that marriage is the union of one man and one woman. Compelling individuals to speak messages against their sincerely held beliefs is un-American and unconstitutional.”
