AG Paxton Applauds U.S. Supreme Court Decision to Uphold President Trump’s Travel Ban

“I’m pleased but hardly surprised that the U.S. Supreme Court upheld President Trump’s travel ban. We were confident all along that the executive order on immigration is a lawful exercise of the president’s statutorily authorized executive power over foreign affairs and national security. The travel ban is a carefully crafted approach to upgrading vetting and national security procedures critical to protecting Texas and the rest of the nation from terrorism. The Constitution places decisions like that in the hands of the president and Congress, not unelected federal judges, as the Supreme Court has repeatedly recognized.”

AG Paxton Hails U.S. Supreme Court Decision Upholding Texas’ Redistricting Maps

“I’m grateful that the U.S. Supreme Court restored the rule of law to the redistricting process. The court rightly recognized that the Constitution protects the right of Texans to draw their own legislative districts, and rejected the misguided efforts by unelected federal judges to wrest control of Texas elections from Texas voters,” Attorney General Paxton said. “This is a huge win for the Constitution, Texas, and the democratic process. Once again, Texans have the power to govern themselves.”

AG Paxton Lauds SCOTX Decision Invalidating Illegal Bag Bans Statewide

“I commend the Texas Supreme Court for upholding the principle that no one is exempted from the rule of law. This ruling sends the unambiguous message to all local jurisdictions in Texas that they do not get to simply ignore laws they don’t agree with,” Attorney General Paxton said. “Municipalities violate the law when they unlawfully pass the burden of solid waste management to citizens and retailers through illegal bag bans. I hope that Laredo, Austin, and any other jurisdictions that have enacted illegal bag bans will take note and voluntarily bring their ordinances into compliance with state law. Should they decline to do so, I expect the ruling will be used to invalidate any other illegal bag bans statewide.”

AG Paxton Applauds SCOTUS Decision Protecting the Unborn

“The Supreme Court made the right decision to vacate the D.C. Circuit’s ruling creating a right to abortion for anyone who enters the U.S. illegally,” Attorney General Paxton said. “The previous ruling not only cost a life, but could have paved the way for extending American citizens’ rights to all unlawfully-present aliens with no substantial connection to this country. Texas will not become a sanctuary state for abortions, and will continue the fight to protect and promote fetal life.”
